Welcome! I'm a mom of four, navigating family life in beautiful Folsom, California, and sharing our favorite local spots, events, and family adventures to help other families discover the endless fun our community has to offer.
A Perfect Day Trip from Embassy Suites
When planning our Southern California adventure, we knew SeaWorld San Diego had to be on our list! Our family of six (two adults and four energetic kids) made Embassy Suites Downtown our home base for exploring San Diego. From there, SeaWorld was just a quick 10-minute drive away - perfect for a full day of fun without a long commute.
Ticket Tips for Families
If you're planning a visit, here's a helpful tip: buy your tickets online ahead of time! During our Fall 2024 visit, we found single-day tickets starting at $73.99 when purchased online, compared to the gate price of $122.99. That's a huge savings for our family of six!
For families who might visit more than once in a year, consider the Fun Card option at $118.99, which gives you unlimited visits through December 2025. With four kids, we definitely appreciated finding ways to save!
For families planning to visit multiple attractions during their San Diego vacation, consider the San Diego 3-for-1 Pass! This special ticket gives you one visit to SeaWorld San Diego, San Diego Zoo, and San Diego Zoo Safari Park, all usable within 7 consecutive days from your first visit. Valid through December 31, 2025, this pass is perfect for families who want to experience the best animal attractions San Diego has to offer without purchasing separate tickets for each location. Your family can save significantly compared to buying individual admission tickets for each attraction. Just remember that parking isn't included, so you'll need to budget for that separately at each location. This pass is definitely worth it!
Furry Family Members Welcome (Sort Of!)
Since we were traveling with our dog Zeus, we couldn't bring him to SeaWorld. Thankfully, we discovered Rover - an app that connects you with local pet sitters. We found an amazing sitter just a few miles from our hotel who charged around $40 for the day to take care of our pup while we enjoyed SeaWorld. The peace of mind knowing our dog was in good hands made our day even better!
Our SeaWorld Experience
The moment we walked through the gates, the kids' eyes lit up! SeaWorld offers such a great mix of animal experiences and rides that everyone in our family found something they loved.
The dolphin show was a favorite - the kids couldn't stop talking about how high the dolphins jumped! And watching the orcas during the Orca Encounter presentation was truly breathtaking. The presentation taught us about their natural behaviors while giving us an up-close view of these magnificent animals.
One thing that surprised me about SeaWorld was the variety of rides. The older kids braved the Emperor dive coaster (California's tallest and fastest!), while our younger two enjoyed the gentler Tentacle Twirl and Tidepool Twist. Having options for different ages made this a perfect family destination.
Between rides, we cooled off at the splash areas and took time to touch stingrays and see the penguins - experiences that had both kids and adults smiling!
Soak Zone
Just know that when a spot is designated as a “soak” zone, they mean “soak.” They don’t mean you might get splashed. They mean soaked. Dripping. You-wish-you-brought-a-change-of-clothes.
We easily did it all in one day. We did all of the shows, all of the rides we wanted to (the ones we did, we did many times–we didn’t want to get wet so we didn’t do Shipwreck Rapids), and we spent time with all of the animals. I think one day is very doable.
Thank you to SeaWorld San Diego for providing our family with an unforgettable day of education and entertainment. All opinions expressed are my own, and experiences may vary during your visit.
